Unsure of how to keep-up with infrastructure reliability in an ever-changing, hybrid world? With so many cloud infrastructure and platform services (CIPS) available, do you find yourself asking, ‘How can I make sure my data center infrastructure and its operations are maximized and successful?’ If you are feeling a little challenged in any of these areas, this report will be informative.
If you haven’t heard it before, we’ll tell you now: modernizing your I&O management is critical. But that’s easier said than done, right? Chances are you’re going to need a little more direction than that.
Fortunately, the Gartner Report “Research Roundup for Modernizing Infrastructure and Operations in a Hybrid World” has the direction you're looking for. Whatever stage you’re at – whether it’s shoring up your public cloud infrastructure or you’re modernizing your on-premise data centers’ I&O – the Gartner report guides you through modernizing your I&O and, more importantly, describes how I&O leaders can and must, “strive for greater consistency and efficiency by extending and integrating their I&O strategy in support of digital transformation” as we move through 2022.
In its analysis of the Research Roundup, Gartner notes “The broad availability of public cloud infrastructure, and the rise of cloud infrastructure and platform services (CIPS), have made many organizations reconsider the long-term strategy for their data center infrastructure and how it’s operated. This is regardless of whether it is on-premises, outsourced or collocated.”
“Gartner advises enterprises to take a two-pronged approach to modernizing I&O:
Embrace public cloud infrastructure whenever appropriate
Modernize the remaining data center infrastructure and operations”
According to Gartner, the “Research Roundup for Modernizing Infrastructure and Operations in a Hybrid World report” “provides a summary of Gartner’s recent research primarily related to the second item.” However, the research “is equally applicable to I&O leaders wishing to avoid making the mistakes of previous, failed cloud initiatives.” What Gartner means by this is that “modern data center infrastructure must not be considered in isolation of the public cloud. Rather, modern I&O teams must strive for consistency in service delivery and the removal of siloed, duplicated processes.”
To help organize this information, the Gartner report breaks down modernizing I&O into five focus areas for I&O leaders in a hybrid-dominant environment. Garner advises “enterprises adopt a “cloud-inspired” approach to data center infrastructure and operations, which can be described as the pragmatic adoption of appropriate aspects of public cloud at other locations.”
Within each focus area, Gartner provides research articles that offer “a summary of current Gartner research that will assist in modernizing I&O for a hybrid world.” You can find the five categories below.
